Explore Local Tavern History and Support the Society's Meeme House Project!
From Civil War mustering to civic debate and engagement, our taverns were integral in shaping our county's history. The Manitowoc County Historical Society’s History Happy Hour takes place at establishments like yours throughout the year. History Happy Hour is typically held on a Wednesday evening, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Visitors to History Happy Hour can take home a written history page and a commemorative photo coaster of the establishment (while supplies last). The evening concludes with a 50/50 raffle to benefit the restoration of the Meeme House project. The series is promoted through news releases, print advertisements, and social media.
The average attendance at History Happy Hour is 40 to 80 people.
Typical History Happy Hour timeline:
5:00 pm—Historical Society staff arrives to set up a banner, coasters, and history pages.
5:30—History Happy Hour opens. Guests can take a coaster and history page home with them. Historical Society volunteers travel around the room and encourage guests to purchase tickets for the 50/50 raffle.
6:30—A raffle winner is drawn and History Happy Hour ends.
What does the History Happy Hour series support?
History Happy Hour is a 21+ event with all proceeds going toward the Manitowoc County Historical Society’s Meeme House restoration project. The Meeme House will be restored to its glory in 1915. The historic structure will serve as in interactive living history museum, where visitors of all ages can be transported back in time and discover the Meeme House Inn, its livery, and poll house, in operation.
How do I get involved?
Contact MCHS at (920) 684-4445 or info@ManitowocCountyHistory.org with any questions you may have. We ask for a donation of $50 towards the Meeme House Project, which offsets the cost of the commemorative photo coasters and research services.
