MCHS Mural Contest

The Manitowoc County Historical Society aims to inspire curiosity and foster lifelong learning about Manitowoc County’s past by providing engaging, individualized, and unique experiences. MCHS is inviting classrooms (not limited to Manitowoc County schools) to submit a collaborative proposal through the MCHS Mural Contest. Pre-K through 5th grade classrooms are encouraged to depict life in Wisconsin between 1850 and 1915, and in their own words, why it should be selected to be painted (by their class) into a temporary mural for the 2019 summer season, along with a brief description of the historical scene depicted.

Classroom entries will be reviewed by a committee of MCHS staff and volunteers. Top entries will be highlighted on the Manitowoc County Historical Society’s website. The winning class will paint a 4’x4’ board to hang on the side of the General Store in the children’s Discovery Village for the 2020 summer season. All participants will be invited to a reception in May 2020 to celebrate their accomplishments. There is no entry fee.

The winning classroom will be notified by Friday, March 20, 2020. Then, MCHS Program Coordinator will schedule a classroom visit with teacher to deliver a 4’x4’ board for the painting of the mural and to congratulate the students and answer any questions. The teacher will arrange with Program Coordinator for a pick-up of the completed board before May 1, 2020.
