Our scout programs offer unique, hands-on experiences for your troop. Whether your group wants to imagine life in the 19th Century in our Historic Village or explore many discoveries in our archives – our Museum and Pinecrest Village has much to offer!

MCHS staff are certified BSA counselors for the Merit Badge classes we offer.

Space is limited, pre-registration is required, and cost varies by program.

Group Educational Overnight Experience

When the sun goes down, it’s time to explore. Experience the story of our past with immersive hands-on programming, and engaging local history—all within a unique theme.

Bring a camping tent and join us for a truly unique experience at MCHS! Camp sites are located across from the Meeme House, in the field arena.

Level: All ages

Program Length: Seasonal Program. Groups can arrive any time after 5:00 pm. Programming begins at 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. The overnight experience concludes at 8:00 am the following day.

Metalworking Scout BSA Merit Badge

Blacksmith Learn the history of blacksmithing and safety in the shop - and then create 2 projects to take home - a “steak flipper” and a spatula, including rivet work.

*MCHS staff are certified BSA counselors for the classes we offer. This program has a custom “Pinecrest Village” patch that is available for an additional cost.

Program Length: Lab only is 3 hours for 4 students; Full Badge is 5 hours for 4 students.

Signs, Signals, and Codes Scout BSA Merit Badge

Through the lens of a WWI Soldier, you’ll learn to emboss your name in braille, decipher Morse code, and lay a path of survival signs for your fellow scouts to follow around the Collins Depot.

Program Length: 5 hours for Full Badge requirements

Archaeology BSA Merit Badge - Coming in Fall 2027!

Scouts, come explore the science of archaeology! Discover how cultures have evolved and investigate history through the clues left by our ancestors. In this class, you will learn about the theories and methods used by professional archaeologists, experience material culture in our Historic Village, and try out various tools used in archaeological investigations.

Social Butterfly

Many early residents enjoyed entertaining guests. Attend the 1870 grand ball of the Meeme Library Association where you will practice using good manners, etiquette (including how to set a table), and practice conversation and letter writing skills. When you know the proper way to behave in a situation (like the 1870s grand ball!) you will also feel more confident and at ease.

Program Length: 2 hours

Textile Artist (Senior Girl Scout Badge)

When you see all the colors and textures of fabrics and yarns, do you dream up a million things to do with them? Get ready to turn those visions into reality as you meet with artists, learn about the world of textile arts, and make a project in the craft that most inspires you to pick up your needles (or loom).

Program Length: 2 hours

Playing the Past (Junior Badge: Playing the Past)

Learn about the young girl’s life in the 19th Century – while meeting the requirements of the Junior “Playing the Past” badge. Includes a lesson in 19th-century fashion, a craft, a hands-on historic chore, a chance to play 19th-century games, and loaned 19-century attire!

Letterbox Program - Coming in Spring 2027!

Fulfill requirements for the Letterboxer Badge with this program! Discover letterboxing, a 19th-century recreational sport, learn terminology, make your own letterboxing logbook and stamp, and go on a letterboxing adventure.
