The Manitowoc County Historical Society is excited to offer programs for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Scouts BSA to fulfill badge requirements. We have several hands-on programs for all Scouts as well as special discounted rates for day time visits. Contact us today to step into the stories of our past!

Ongoing Experiences:

Meeme House Educational Overnight Program:

Participants will discover the pivotal role of the Meeme House in the late 1860s by exploring map investigations, various aspects of life at the stage stop, practicing parlor and dining etiquette, creating a historic recipe, and conducting a town meeting.

Programming begins at 7:00 p.m. and concludes the next morning at 8 a.m. The Meeme House Educational Overnight is open to any youth or school group. Group sizes often range from 20 to 50 people.

Badge-related Living History Experiences:

Junior Girl Scouts: Playing the Past Help your Junior Girl Scouts complete their Playing the Past badge by visiting Shadyside School and trying your hand at games from the past. The cost is $6 per scout. Estimated time is 1 to 2 hours during a general admission day. Minimum of 3 scouts, Maximum of 30 scouts. Cost is $15 - 30 per scout.

Junior Girl Scout/ Cub Scout: Social Butterfly Many early residents enjoyed entertaining guests. Attend the 1870 grand ball of the Meeme Library Association where you will practice using good manners, etiquette (including how to set a table), and practice conversation and letter writing skills. When you know the proper way to behave in a situation (like the 1870s grand ball!) you will also feel more confident and at ease. Estimated time is 2 hours during a general admission day. Minimum of 6 scouts, Maximum of 30 scouts. Cost is $15 - $30 per scout.

Cub Scouts - Tigers: Collections and Hobbies Badge Tiger Scouts can complete requirement 3a for the Collections and Hobbies badge by visiting the museum and exploring our exhibits. Estimated time is 1 hour during a general admission day. Minimum of 3 scouts, Maximum of 30 scouts. Cost is $6-10 per scout.

Boy Scouts - Metalworking Merit Badge
Learn the history of blacksmithing and safety in the shop - and then create 2 projects to take home - a “steak flipper” and a spatula, including rivet work. Estimated time is 3 hours during a general admission day. Minimum of 3 scouts, Maximum of 6 scouts.

Please contact your Scout Leader and/or Merit Badge counselor about other requirements. Additionally, it is up to your Merit Badge Counselor to determine if this activity fills the requirement for the Blacksmithing portion.  Cost is $30 per scout.
