Frequently Asked Questions

About Your Visit

How long does it take to visit?

If it’s your first visit, we recommend you spend at least 2 hours. Most guests stay about 2 hours. This gives you time to explore the full 60 acres and over 25 historic structures - and not feel rushed. Since your visit is not a guided tour, the length of visit really varies from a few hours to a couple of days! You can explore at your own pace making it a very personalized experience for your family.

How much will it cost to park?

We offer plenty of Free Parking at the Manitowoc County Historical Society with room for larger vehicles, campers and buses.

Can you bring a picnic lunch into the Historic Village for my daily visit*?

We do allow guests to bring a picnic lunch into the Historic Village. There are picnic tables and benches near the Welcome Center.

*Carry-in items are not allowed during special programs where concessions are available unless otherwise noted.

Can I bring my dog?

Service animals are permitted for persons with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Other pets are not allowed on the grounds. Learn more with our Accessibility page.

Can I bring a stroller or wagon?

Of course! Strollers and wagons must be left outside of our historic structures. Often the doorways may prevent access, and once inside the size of the wagon or stroller may become a barrier in the event of an emergency. Thank you in advance for help keep all guests to our Manitowoc County Historical Society safe.

About the Site

Is the museum wheelchair accessible?

Because the historic structures of our Pinecrest Village simulate the rural environment of the 1800s and early 1900s, some historic spaces have limited accessibility. This is due to the scale used in historic restorations and the rural setting. Our Manitowoc County Historical Society is committed to reviewing the accessibility issue and improving access for all. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals requiring wheelchairs for mobility. Call ahead to make arrangements at (920) 684-4445. Visit our Accessibility page for more information.

Do you rent wheelchairs or scooters?

We have a limited number of wheelchairs available for guests to use free of charge. Please check at the Admissions Desk for availability. While we do not have any motorized scooters for guests to borrow, guests are welcome to bring their own scooter for use in the Village if it is a mobilty device.

Are there modern restrooms?

We love all things historic – but not the bathrooms! We have modern restrooms across the site. You will find these noted on your map, or just ask any staff person for the nearest location.

Are there changing stations?

All of our restrooms–family and men’s and women’s – include baby changing stations. We also know that sometimes you just need to change a diaper right in the yard… so that’s ok too! Trash bins are located across the site, and staff can direct you to the nearest one if needed.

About More…

Can I take photographs?

Of Course! Photos are welcome all over our Manitowoc County Historical Society- both throughout our grounds and inside our historic structures. We encourage you to share these on social media by tagging us with @MantyCoHistory on Instagram or Manitowoc County Historical Society on Facebook! Our one request is that tripods not be used inside our historic structures. This is to protect the walls and floors. All Professional photographers and those wishing to conduct photo shoots must check in at Admissions before entering the site. All group photos (senior pictures, engagement, wedding, family) require all guests to pay general admission.
