Pinecrest Pioneers 4H Club

Step into heritage skills and crafts with us! Our focus is on passing on the knowledge of your ancestors so you can in turn continue these great traditions.

You can learn food preservation, ethnic recipes (like sauerkraut and kolaches) in our historic homes on the wood stoves. Train with our blacksmiths, carpenters, and dressmakers. Help care for Pinecrest Village's chickens!

The Pinecrest Pioneers meets monthly (Time and Date TBD during Interest Meeting) to celebrate skills, community, heritage, and more. Pinecrest Village is a fabulous playground for community service projects, learning skills, and creating projects. With a little elbow grease from the club, you can look for canned goods, fresh veggies, chickens, blacksmith projects, and so much more at the Manitowoc County Fair!

The Mission of the Pinecrest Pioneers 4-H Club

Great-grandparents often possessed invaluable skills in sewing, food preservation, and crafts that are part of our heritage. These skills not only reflect self-sufficiency but also foster creativity and resourcefulness. How can be bring those skills to life for today's generation?

  • Sewing Skills: hand sewing, mending, and garment construction.

  • Quilting: This was a common craft, often involving intricate patterns and community collaboration.

  • Canning and Jarring: Techniques for preserving fruits and vegetables to last through winter were essential.

  • Fermentation: Methods like pickling and making sauerkraut were common for enhancing flavors and extending shelf life.

  • Heritage Skills like knitting, crocheting, blacksmithing, and woodworking - and more!

  • Gardening: Knowledge of growing and maintaining a vegetable garden was crucial for self-sufficiency.

  • Animal Husbandry: Many families raised chickens or other livestock.

  • See first hand the history of agriculture in Wisconsin.
