Museum Policies
Safety and Protocol
Code of Conduct
Staff and visitors are expected to behave in a way concurrent with our mission and values. The Museum will not tolerate comments that are hateful, violent, homophobic, racist, derogatory, or abusive by either visitors or staff. Those who violate these expectations will be removed from the site.
Touching of Costumes or Interpreters
While we understand that historical costumes are fascinating and certainly pique interest, MCHS expects that visitors will not touch, grab, or come into physical contact with historical interpreters or their clothing without expressed permission from said interpreter.
Service Animal Policy
We allow leashed, certified service dogs onsite with proper identification. We do not allow pets. We will call the Sheriff’s Department for any pet left unattended in a vehicle.
Accessible Parking
Parking is FREE and plentiful. Accessible parking can be obtained directly in front of the McAllister House Welcome Center.
First Aid Location
Basic first aid supplies such as bandages, antibacterial ointments, and sting relief sprays can be obtained at both the McAllister House Welcome Center and the Meeme House.
Smoking & Vaping
Smoking and vaping are not allowed past the front parking lots. You will need to exit to your vehicle to smoke or vape.
Clothing and Weapons Policy
Visitors are always welcome to get in on the historical fun by wearing their 19th-century finest! Visitors are not, however, permitted to bring weapons on site (real, or fake). We ask that visitors not wear clothing reflecting any sort of hate speech, and that visitors remain clothed during their visit (shirt, shoes, etc.).
Food & Drink
Visitors are welcome to bring food to enjoy on our green spaces. Outdoor dining tables are available and wooden benches are distributed throughout the Historic Village. We do not allow grills or any kind of fire apparatus.
Farm Animals are unpredictable
For your safety and theirs, we ask that you do not pursue or harass any site animals. Please do not feed the animals any of your own food.
Historic Building Guidelines
Food and beverages are prohibited in historic buildings. While MCHS does offer many “hands-on” activities, we ask you to please avoid touching the wallpaper and furnishings, which may be irreplaceable.
Native Plants & Heritage Gardens
Help us preserve our gardens for future generations to enjoy by not picking the plants and fruit.
Strollers & Wagons
Due to hazards posed by narrow doorways in emergency situations please leave non-essential strollers and wagons outside of the historic buildings.
Lost & Found
Please return to the McAllister House Welcome Center to inquire about any items that may be lost. Found items can be delivered to these spaces as well.
Waiver of Liability
By entering the Museum, you agree, on behalf of yourself and any minor children accompanying you, to assume all risks and dangers of personal injury, property damage, and other hazards incidental or in any way related to the visit, whether occurring prior to, during, or subsequent to the visit and releases MCHS, its trustees, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates from any and all liability for same arising from the visit.
