Winter Work - Lumberjacks, Flapjacks, and Syrup (Family Field Trip)

  • Manitowoc County Historical Society 924 Pinecrest Road Manitowoc, WI, 54220 (map)

Just because it is cold out doesn’t mean the work stops! Join us in the woods for the winter’s work. Make a lumberjack’s breakfast. Learn about the tools, jobs, and day to day tasks in the lumber camp.

Celebrate the charm of maple syrup season, as Pinecrest Village buzzes with the energy of early spring. Discover the old-fashioned skills needed to take this sweet treat all the way from tree to table.

Our costumed educators will “spile” the beans on maple’s magic, and teach you the backwoods skills necessary for adventures in the sugarbush. Join in all manner of maple merriment, including sappy stories and tall tales by a roaring fire, and using a bit and brace. Acquire new skills to take on your next trek into the sugarbush, and learn the secrets of collecting sugar-maple sap out in the woods.

Note: In order to give students hands-on experiences, we suggest families rotate in small groups. Thus the maximum capacity of this program is about 100 students.

The ideal age for this program is 4 to 17. Register by March 9th. Program activities take place from 10 am to 2 pm, unless otherwise noted. We suggest allowing at least 2 hours to take part in the program. The Two Creeks Town Hall is available for families to take a snack or lunch break, or enjoy a quiet space to play.

Family field trip/homeschool program admission is $6 for students age 4 to 17. Children under 4 are admitted free. One adult educator per family is admitted free.  Additional adults may join in the program at a cost of $12 each. Payment is due upon registration.
