Manitowoc County Historical Society and Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center

Agriculture of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow
Field Trip Experience

Recommended for Grade 4 and above

We’ve created the perfect itinerary to connect agriculture of the past with the present and future. With a morning at our Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village and an afternoon tour at Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center, students will come full circle in their exploration and understanding of Wisconsin agriculture.

The immersive experience offers students the chance to visualize, interact with, read about, and investigate the food, fuel, and fiber produced in Wisconsin. Each section of the field trip is designed to tap into a different learning style, ensuring a positive educational experience for students and teachers alike.

At the Manitowoc County Historical Society, students will discover that time is a resource to use wisely on a farm. Follow an early 1900s farm family through turning grains into food, tending to their fields, taking their milk to the cheese factory, and creating a meal for the family. See how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and history connect through pioneer power on the 19th century farm.

Students will then travel (with their own transportation) to Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center. There, they will have time for a lunch break. Throughout the visit, students will listen to local producers, lift a 40-pound block of cheese, watch how cranberries are harvested, smell what a dairy cow eats, and, if added-on, enjoy a scoop of Wisconsin-made ice cream.
