Winter Weekends

Join us for Winter Weekends on the second Saturday in January, February, and March from 11 am - 3 pm

January 10, February 14, and March 14

The Winter Weekends are made possible in part by WOMT 100.

Enjoy a handful of your favorite buildings and activities!

Before you visit the Historic Village, explore the schedule below to discover the variety of demonstrations, expert talks, historic tastings, and more happening each winter weekend at MCHS!

MCHS is open 11 am – 3 pm, on the second Saturday in January, February, and March. Enjoy these winter weekends by exploring a handful of historic buildings in the Village, embrace the winter by snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or sledding (bring your own snowshoes, skies, sleds), and enjoy the season! Please note, paths may be slippery and buildings will not be open, unless they are a part of that day’s programming.

General admission tickets for Winter Weekends can be purchased online in advance or at the McAllister House Welcome Center.

Schedule for March

Today’s highlights:

  • St. Patrick's Day celebrations in general date back to the 19th century, when waves of Irish immigrants came to America looking for better job opportunities.

  • What did the folks in the town of Meeme do for St. Patrick's Day in the mid-19th century? What exactly is the "Gibbon's Circle?"

  • Join us for a day of celebration, heritage, and history as we explore the Fenians in Manitowoc County. The day will include wood stove cooking, a visit to the Print Office, and with any luck a visit with a few members of the Gibbon's Circle on issues important to their 19th century selves.

Sledding on the Great Niles Church Hill

Join us for an afternoon of sledding down the hill in the Niles Church hill! Bring your own sled for races down the hill or build a nature’s friend – a snowman complete with wildlife-friendly decorations. Embrace the winter by snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. Bring your own snowshoes, skies, sleds.

Please call ahead for sledding, snowshoeing, or skiing conditions: (920) 684-4445.
