Join the Manitowoc-Calumet Library System for a free day at the Manitowoc County Historical Society. Guests can show their MCLS library card to tour the museum at no cost.

A story time at Shadyside School will be presented by the Manitowoc Public Library at 11:00 am.

A variety of make-and-take activities will be available for youth inside our Shadyside School.

FREE Family Reading Night: MPL Family Activity Night

The Manitowoc Public Library and the Manitowoc County Historical Society have teamed up for a FREE AFTER-HOURS family activity night all about reading! The citizens of Pinecrest Village are opening the doors for you to listen to their stories, take part in activities, or even to find a comfortable place to read your own book!

Celebrate reading with books giveaways galore, reading raffles, and tips for families and caregivers on how to make literacy fun.

There is no cost to attend the program. Donations are appreciated to help support local history education.

Curiosity Fair

Kids and adults are invited to play, create and investigate the mysteries of the world around them and explore Wisconsin through science, history and art at the Manitowoc County Historical Society’s Curiosity Fair. There is a wide variety of activities, demonstrations, and exhibits. 

Visitors will discover what living things are in their own backyard with Woodland Dunes, meet and greet reptiles, travel the museum grounds on a miniature train ride, and create a souvenir with Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum in the Pinecrest Print Shop. The day will also include a ride on a vintage bicycle with the Wisconsin Bike Federation, the opportunity to test drive a LEGO robot with Lakeshore FIRST Robotics, and creating a piggy bank with Verve, a Credit Union. Join local fire departments in bucket brigade contests and take part in a vintage base ball game.

Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children (5-17), and free for children under the age of 5. MCHS members receive free admission.

The Curiosity Fair is made possible by Fox Communities Credit Union, Terp Family Insurance, and Verve, a Credit Union.

Drop Spindle Spinning

Learn about the history of spinning, the different fibers that can be used, and how to prep wool during this interactive class.  Our talented instructors will assist you in learning on a drop spindle to help you create your own yarn. Appropriate for ages 10-adult.

Advanced registration required. Workshop fee is $25 MCHS Members, $30 Non-members.

Registration includes a drop spindle of your own, wool, and instruction book. Admission to Museum included in workshop fee. The class is limited to 5 people.

Family Night: Pioneer Boot Camp

Do you have what it takes to be a pioneer? 

During our August Family Night you will travel through various pioneer challenges to see if you have what it takes to be a Manitowoc County pioneer.  Enter as an individual or a family team. Prizes awarded for best pioneer skills.

Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children age 5 to 17, under age 5 is free.  MCHS Members are admitted free.
