Meet tradespeople in Pinecrest Village and become their apprentice. Learn how they are adapting to new technology and power to expand their businesses. 

This guided tour explores the world of STEM – from simple machines to 19th century currency, to ratios and math needed to change recipes in the kitchens. Students will use modern day methods to solve 19th century problems.

Registration and Additional Details

This program is open to all public, private, and home school students. Choose a date that works best for your group and fill out the booking form below with your desired tour schedule.

Schools will be divided into groups of no more than 30 students and adults.

Program fees are: Primary Family Educator/Teacher: FREE ( One primary adult educator per family is admitted free.); Additional Adults/Chaperones: $13; Youth (4 – 17): $6 ; Children under 4: FREE. 

Program format: This is a 2 hour guided tour. It can be made shorter to accommodate schedule needs. We encourage a 1:10 ratio of adults to students (teachers are included in with adults).

Review our Museum Manners and Code of Conduct before your visit to best prepare you and your students.

Max Capacity: 300 students per day. Group attendee numbers need to be updated or confirmed at least 2 weeks before your visit or you will be financially responsible for the number you register with.

Availability: Programs are available May 1 through October 31, Tuesday through Friday. Limited availability from November through April.

Lesson at Shadyside School

Experience the one-room school house with this tour experience. Interact with our school teacher to take part in lessons real lessons. Children will read from McGuffey’s Readers, complete math problems on slates, and participate in spelling bees.

Historic Pastimes

Life for early settlers wasn’t only about hard work and chores - leisure time in the 19th century can teach us a lot about History! Take your turn in playing some games from the past. What games and toys did kids just like you take part in?
