Wash and dry dishes and bring in wood for the wood box. This basic woodstove cooking class is designed to get kids and adults busy in the kitchen with kid-friendly recipes and hands-on tasks.

Cast Iron Cook-off

Cooks in our historic buildings will learn their three ingredients in the morning, then prep a dish or a meal for our team of judges. Surprise ingredients will be delivered to their sites; otherwise they may only use what they already have on hand.

Judges will visit sites in the afternoon to evaluate taste, presentation, and historical value.

Females at the Forge: Create-Connect Workshop

Join us in the forge to learn how fire, metal and a hammer come together to create a decorative piece! Our experienced female blacksmith will teach you a few tricks of the trade in this special WOMEN ONLY edition of our popular introductory blacksmith class. Topics covered will include forge safety, tools, and fire building, and you will have an opportunity to work on a first project. No experience necessary!

Beer and Wood-fired Oven Pretzels: Create-Connect Workshop

Many German immigrants settled in Wisconsin bringing their love of beer with them. Learn about the historical role of beer and discover how to make a pale ale using local ingredients sourced from Briess Malting in Manitowoc with the Manty Malters Homebrew Club.

You’ll also make a savory treat - oven pretzels. While the pretzels are baking, the mustards can be made - and beer samples can be shared.

Metal Christmas Ornaments

Whether it's to create your own keepsake or make presents for friends and family, this is a great opportunity to learn simple metalworking techniques in copper, tin, and brass. You'll have the opportunity to create 2-3 attractive ornaments.

Fee: $5.00 for MCHS Member. $10 for non-member. Advanced registration is required. Ages 6+. Adult must accompany children under age 16.
